A Momentous Move-In Day

As Whitman College’s in-house videographer transitioned to a new career, the college hired me to film the excitement and emotions of their freshmen students’ Move-In Day. Teaming up with their photographer, I embraced a dynamic, run-and-gun style shoot—roaming the expansive quads, dorm corridors, and historic buildings with a lean kit to capture every spontaneous moment.

My focus was the day’s emotions: parents’ hugs, roommates’ first hellos, and students personalizing their spaces—interwoven with majestic architectural and campus shots that rooted the moment in Whitman’s unique atmosphere. In post-production, I sourced a royalty-free song from the same artist as the 2022 Move-In video, and used the track’s energy to shape the video’s pacing. Through collaborative feedback with Whitman’s marketing department, I refined the edit to emphasize the unprecedented diversity of the incoming class.

The result is an emotive, cinematic highlight reel that not only documents the Move-In Day but also resonates with students and families.
